Articulate 360: Closed Caption (CC) Transcripts for Rise Use [UW-Madison]
UW-Madison provides access to Kaltura MediaSpace for most employees. To create transcriptions of videos to use in Rise 360, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to Kaltura MediaSpace and login. If you are unfamiliar with Kaltura, please see Kaltura - How to Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace [UW-Madison] for information on how to login.
- Upload the video to Kaltura MediaSpace. If you are unfamiliar with Kaltura, please see Kaltura - Uploading Files to Kaltura Mediaspace [UW-Madison]
- Once your video is uploaded, you may make selections to export the SRT file. Please refer to Kaltura at UW-Madison: Creating a Custom .SRT File for Subtitles to learn how to do this.
- Unfortunately, Kaltura only has options for certain export file types and they do not align with the options for upload within Rise 360. The file type for Rise 360 is VTT, which is a web-based file type. To convert the file, it is recommended to use a cloud/web-based converter. It is NOT recommended to download any software to your workstation as this may create a security issue. Ebby.co is a reputable web-based SRT to VTT converter.
- Convert your file from SRT to VTT
- Upload the VTT file to Rise 360. See Rise 360: How to Add Closed Captioning to a Video to learn how to accomplish this.
Your video should now have closed captioning available. Ensure that the visible language syncs with the video playback.
Note: Accessibility Standards, per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state the accuracy of CC must be 99%. This includes punctuation, grammar, spelling, and NO paraphrasing. The CC must keep the tone and intention intact. To accomplish this, take the time to read the transcript within Kaltura while the media is playing.
