D2L - Get Help (UW-Madison)


UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

Get help via phones, email, chat, or Webform

Contact the Help Desk to receive technical assistance or help with setting up any of the tools in D2L. The DoIT Help Desk is the place to start with questions about particular functions of D2L or about technical difficulties. Common Questions

Why don't I see my course?

There are several reasons you may not be seeing your course.

Why don't my students see my course?

  • D2L courses must be activated each semester, as they are set to inactive by default. Refer to this page for more information on activating a course.
  • Students must register for the course through My UW-Madison. Because D2L roster updates occur once daily during early morning hours Monday-Friday, it will require an overnight for a student to appear in the course classlist after they've registered. In instances where a student enrolls on a Friday, it could require waiting until the following Monday before they appear.

    DoIT Academic Technology

    DoIT's Academic Technology Consultants provide help with course design and can help you get started with D2L. They can show you the most efficient ways to get started and to use D2L, whether you would like to add a syllabus or design an entire course. Consultants are available to meet with you by scheduling an appointment sometime in the planning stage of your course.
