Kaltura - Known Issue - Kaltura videos embedded in D2L launch a separate empty tab in Safari and Chrome on mobile devices

Users report that some Kaltura videos embedded in D2L HTML pages when tapped on will launch a separate empty tab in Safari and Chrome on mobile devices. This document describes one workaround to get the videos to play correctly.

Workaround 1

Use Chrome with the “Request desktop site” feature in as described here. In short the process is:

  1. Open the Chrome Browser on your mobile device.
  2. Visit the D2L course and page you wish to view.
  3. Tap on the 3 dot Chrome icon in the upper right.
  4. From the list of options tap on Request Desktop site option.

Videos will then load and play in the Chrome browser in D2L. D2L does display a window at the bottom that says “Your browser is looking a little retro… Safari 8 is unsupported”. You can ignore this message.

Workaround 2

Access D2L via a browser on a desktop or laptop computer running Windows or OSX.
