Moodle - Using Guest Access

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

This article is about the option to make your course public to everyone, or to make someone a guest using manual enrollment.

Making the Course Public

To allow guest access, be sure that Guest Access is in the course's Enrollment Methods.

In the "Settings" block select Users and then select Enrollment Methods.

Navigation Block to users to Enrollment methods

If "Guest Access" does not appear under the Enrollment Methods, select Guest Access from the "Add Method" drop-down.

Adding Guest Access

Click on the Guest access option in the "Administration" block on the left side of the page.

Under Edit Settings, scroll down to the "Guest Access" section and change the "Allow Guest Access" box to Yes. If this option doesn't show up right away, look for a "Show more..." option under the password box.

(Note: You have the option to set a password when the course is made public that all guests will have to remember)
