Moodle - Restricting Quizzes to Certain Networks

UW-Madison has adopted Canvas as its single, centrally supported learning management system. As of 6/1/2018, support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and most Moodle courses has been discontinued. Access to those courses has permanently ended. However, certain Moodle courses that are part of the Adanced Quizzing Content Functional Gaps project are still available on Moodle. Those courses are located on the Moodle Extension site.

This document explains how to restrict quizzes in Moodle to certain locations via their IP addresses.

First you will need to obtain the IP address(es) that you want to restrict the Moodle quiz to. You can include as many addresses as you want as long as you separate each address with a comma.

  1. Start by clicking on Edit Settings under "Quiz administration" in the Administration block.

  2. Next, go to the "Extra Restrictions on attempts".

  3. Click on Show more. Then enter the IP addresses that you would like to restrict the quiz to, separated by a comma, into the the "Require network address" box.
