Moodle - UW-Madison Login Method

UW-Madison has adopted Canvas as its single, centrally supported learning management system. As of 6/1/2018, support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and most Moodle courses has been discontinued. Access to those courses has permanently ended. However, certain Moodle courses that are part of the Adanced Quizzing Content Functional Gaps project are still available on Moodle. Those courses are located on the Moodle Extension site.

This article outlines the step in logging into Moodle

UW Moodle - Which login method to use?

To get to Moodle, Canvas, and Desire2Learn, you should go to

Which login button should you choose on the Moodle homepage?

You will be presented with the following login options:

If you are a UW student, faculty, or staff member and have a UW-Madison NetID:
  1. Click the UW NetID Login button.
  2. Enter your UW NetID and password on the common NetID login screen.

If you are NOT a UW student, faculty, or staff member with a UW NetID and have been given a UW Moodle visitor account:
  1. Click the Visitor Login button.
  • "UW Moodle Visitor" accounts are generally given to non-UW people including visiting instructors, outside collaborators, and many participants in non-credit UW courses. Additionally, some people have been given Visitor accounts to use as a generic group account or as a "pseudo-student" (for testing purposes).
  • Enter your visitor username and password then click the Login button.
