How to publish to the UW-Madison Tableau server
This is a guide on helping people with publishing their approved workbook into UW-Madison's Tableau production server.
Make sure that the change request has been finished its review and approval process and it is on "Requester Activation" stage, before publishing to "UW Madison Institutional Data".
Only the workbook owner is able to re-publish
The publisher has to have permission granted to them to publish into "UW Madison Institutional Data" folder.
Publishing a new workbook
Navigate to your reviewed workbook inside "Staging " folder on the server
Click on the three dots icon and choose "Refresh Extracts"
Make sure the refresh is finished successfully. Then click on the three dots icon again and this time choose "Move".
Choose "UW Madison Institutional Data" folder and click "Move Content".
If Republishing an existing Workbook
Make sure the copy on your desktop matches the one in "Staging" folder on the server that was approved by reviewers.
If it doesn't match, then download the Staging copy into your desktop and open it with Tableau desktop on your machine.
Then navigate to "Data Source" tab of the workbook. This will prompt you to login to your data sources. Go ahead and finish authorization process into them.
Now navigate back to the home page. From top menu bar, choose "Server".
If you are not logged into the server, choose "Sign In" and finish the sign in process. You will be prompted for MFA. If you are asked to choose a site, choose "UW-Madison" from the list.
After logging in to the server from your Tableau desktop, click "Server" from top menu bar and choose "Publish Workbook".
