Badger Data - Configuring an ODBC Connection (Windows)

When connecting to Badger Data, some applications may require you to create an ODBC connection to Snowflake rather than using a native driver. This document goes through the steps to configure an ODBC connection for Badger Data on Windows operating systems.
  1. Download and install the appropriate ODBC driver from Snowflake.

  2. Open ODBC Data Sources with the same bit version you installed.

  3. Under User DSN, click Add.

  4. Locate SnowflakeDSIIDriver in the list and click Finish.

  5. A new dialog window will open. Fill in the dialog using the information below.

    • Data Source: Any name (e.g., BADGER_DATA)

      While you can have spaces in the data source name, other program using the ODBC connection may not be able to take in space characters. Use caution when configuring connections with space characters in the name.

    • User: <Your NetID>@wisc.edu (e.g., bbadger@wisc.edu)

    • Server: laa66896.us-east-1.snowflakecomputing.com

    • Warehouse: BA_USER_SM

    • Tracing (0-6): 4

    • Authenticator: externalbrowser
