How to add alternative text to images in Tableau

This document is a quick guide on how to add alternative text to an image in Tableau.

One of the items to implement when creating a workbook is to make it as accessible as possible.

Adding alternative texts to our images makes the image accessible to screen readers. We need to add alternative text to images on all dashboards as well as home page where it applies including: UW-Madison’s logo, data classification image, the ‘i’ icon and the “?” icon and any other visible images. Here is how you can add that:

To do so, right-click the image > then “Edit Image” and fill out the “Alt Text” field with a simple text:

Then hit OK and save.
