The Resnet IT staff has invoked changes to their network to deal with the excessively high network traffic that has come as a consequence of the MyDoom virus and other reasons. Some of these changes include blocking ports of Resnet users.
For users that have had their ports shut off, which you can check at this website, https://stats.resnet.wisc.edu/crossRef.php, they will need to take steps to remove their computer of any viruses and/or spyware that may be causing the high latency on the network. It is our job to assist them in doing that, which entails getting up-to-date antivirus software on their computer and malware software such as Ad-Aware and/or SpyBot.
If they have the MyDoom virus, have them go to this page http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.novarg.a@mm.removal.tool.html to download and run the removal utility.
