This issue was resolved on February 13, 2025.

After authenticating to the Azure portal with their NetID and Duo, some users are seeing a "Microsoft Authenticator: Start by getting the app" pop up. Access to the Azure portal is not allowed until Microsoft Authenticator is configured.

We are working to revert this unintended change, but for now users will be able to setup Microsoft Authenticator using the link configured in the pop up.

Activating Microsoft Authenticator will not have any impact on your current use of Duo and will only be used to access the Azure portal while we work to resolve this issue.

If you are locked out, please contact the DoIT Help Desk https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=1 and ask them to send a case to the Microsoft 365 team to address the Microsoft multi-factor device issue.
