WiscVPN (Chromebooks) - Configure the Native VPN Client
This document covers how to configure the native VPN client for Chromebook to use WiscVPN.
Note: This configuration does not support Static IP addressing. You must use the GlobalProtect App to use a Static IP address with WiscVPN. Please refer to WiscVPN GlobalProtect (Chromebook) - Installing to install and use GlobalProtect for Chromebook.
Configure VPN Connection
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings

- In the “Network” section, select Add connection.
- Next to “Add built-in VPN,” select Add
.
- Fill in this information in the box that opens:
- Service name: WiscVPN
- Provider type: L2TP/IPSec
- Server Hostname: uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu
- Pre-shared key: vpnw1sc2002
- Username: your NetID
- Password: your NetID password
- Click Connect.
Connect to WiscVPN
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Check if VPN is On.
- If VPN is Off, click the VPN icon.
- Click on WiscVPN.
- Enter your NetID and NetID password.
Disconnect from WiscVPN
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Click Connected to WiscVPN
- Click the Disconnect box to the right of the top WiscVPN entry.
