WiscVPN (Chromebooks) - Configure the Native VPN Client

This document covers how to configure the native VPN client for Chromebook to use WiscVPN.

Note: This configuration does not support Static IP addressing. You must use the GlobalProtect App to use a Static IP address with WiscVPN. Please refer to WiscVPN GlobalProtect (Chromebook) - Installing to install and use GlobalProtect for Chromebook.

Configure VPN Connection

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. In the “Network” section, select Add connection.
  4. Next to “Add built-in VPN,” select Add .
  5. Fill in this information in the box that opens:
    1. Service name: WiscVPN
    2. Provider type: L2TP/IPSec
    3. Server Hostname: uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu 
    4. Pre-shared key: vpnw1sc2002     
    5. Username: your NetID
    6. Password: your NetID password
  6. Click Connect.

Connect to WiscVPN

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Check if VPN is On
  3. If VPN is Off, click the VPN icon.
  4. Click on WiscVPN.
  5. Enter your NetID and NetID password.

Disconnect from WiscVPN

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Click Connected to WiscVPN
  3. Click the Disconnect box to the right of the top WiscVPN entry.
