Course Guide - Service Description

The Course Guide is a single point of reference for information about courses. For current applicants, students, and faculty the Course Guide will be found in My UW-Madison.

Background

The Course Guide will allow students and faculty to view many different kinds of course information in one convenient location. The Course Guide will include an easily searchable course catalog and other course information drawn from various sources when possible, including textbook requirements. The Course Guide's search tools will allow users to search for courses using many different criteria.

The Course Guide is available to two specific audiences:

Applicants, students, and faculty of UW-Madison

  • UW-Madison users of the Course Guide will be able to access it via My UW-Madison. For these users, the Course Guide will appear as a widget within My UW (labeled Course Guide) and will allow students to search for courses, view course information, and add courses to a customized list or plan of courses.

  • If the course guide does not appear on the homepage, simply search "Course Guide" in the search box above, and select "Add to Favorites."

Members of the general public

  • The public will be able to use a publicly accessible version of the course guide to search for courses and view course information. However, they will not be able to make use of the course planning features which UW-Madison users will be able to use.

Support Information

If users have trouble accessing the Course Guide, the DoIT Help Desk will be available to assist. The Help Desk cannot assist with questions about course requirements or other specific enrollment-related questions.

Availability

  • Because the Course Guide is primarily contained within My UW-Madison, it will be available whenever My UW-Madison is available. For more information about the availability of My UW-Madison, see My UW-Madison - Maintenance Schedule.

  • UW-Madison applicants, students, and faculty will need to know their NetID and password in order to access My UW-Madison and the Course Guide. Users who do not remember their NetIDs or passwords will need to call the DoIT Help Desk for assistance.

  • Because the Course Guide is a browser-based application, its software requirements are less prohibitive than some other applications. However, there are some suggestions. See MyUW - Recommended Browsers for more information about the recommended and supported browsers for My UW-Madison.
