Release History

Version 2.0 (April 2021):   GCP sensitive and restricted data eligibility & RHEDCloud for restricted data
  • In April 2021, GCP became eligible for sensitive and restricted data (see Cloud Platform Eligibility for Sensitive and Restricted Data for additional details)
  • To utilize sensitive or restricted data, an additional assessment will be needed (see Cybersecurity Cloud Assessment for Restricted Data to understand this process)
  • Initial rollout for restricted data includes selected implementation patterns that have been previously vetted to streamline the assessment process.   Initial patterns are for Web App hosting, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Compute, Kubernetes through GKE and Speech to Text / Text to Speech capabilities.
  • Utilizing other features with restricted data is appropriate but potentially require additional collaboration with Cybersecurity & the Public Cloud team to assess.
Version 1.0 (2020):  GCP Features:
  • The entire suite of generally available GCP compute services including Compute Engines (VMs), Storage and SQL
  • The ability for customers to process, store, or otherwise propagate internal and public data in GCP
  • The ability for users to sign in to the Google console using their NetID
  • The pricing model for GCP services is under development and referred to in KB article 100173.
Version 1.0 of the campus GCP offering does not include:
  • The ability for customers to provision resources in campus IP space
  • The ability for customers to process, store, or otherwise propagate sensitive or restricted data in GCP without a risk management assessment.
While we hope to not deactivate GCP projects created during the pilot after the pilot concludes, we may need to make changes to project configurations throughout the pilot. If project reconfiguration (or project deactivation) is necessary, we will coordinate with you prior to making changes to your GCP project.

Possible Roadmap

  • The ability for customers to provision resources in campus IP space
