The Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education is Marsha Mailick.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Graduate School has overall responsibility for research and graduate education. This dual responsibility reflects the symbiotic relationship between research and graduate education; success in one is closely aligned to success in the other. The mission of the graduate program is to "foster excellence in research and graduate education."

The office also includes administration of 17 cross-campus research and service centers and maintains oversight of the Graduate School, which has an annual budget of $160 million and as well as responsibility for 9,400 graduate students in 150 master’s and 120 doctoral fields. Vice Chancellor Mailick’s leadership team consists of faculty and staff members representing the various disciplines of research and graduate education, including administration, physical sciences, biological sciences, social studies and arts and humanities. In addition, an extensive network of operational support is in place to support the office’s mission.
