The Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Library is one of the oldest university library friends groups in the nation. In the half-century since its formation during the university's centennial, the organization has supported the continuing excellence of a great research library system.
The university depends on libraries to support diverse scholarly and teaching activities for its 40,000 students, 2,000 teaching faculty, 4,000 courses, and 150 departments. The Friends help meet the challenges the libraries face in serving one of the nation's largest universities.
There are many benefits of being a Friend of the Library, including announcements of Friends lectures, exhibitions and receptions, invitations to special library events, the Friends magazine, and authorization to access and borrow from the library's collections.
