Trend Micro - Introduction to Trend Micro AV for Personally Owned macOS Devices

This article contains general information and useful links for the AV tool for macOS devices owned by Faculty and Staff, Trend Micro.
Introduction

Trend Micro Antivirus software is available for UW faculty and staff for the purposes of protecting personally owned macOS devices. Faculty and staff can obtain one annual Trend Micro license from the campus software library every 350 days, and this license allows the user to install Trend Micro security software on up to 5 personal devices (including macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android). This means once you've installed Trend Micro on your Mac, you will have the opportunity to install Trend Micro on up to four additional devices (macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android) of your choosing. However, to conserve licenses the university asks that you only obtain a Trend Micro license if you have a personally owned Mac you wish to protect (instructions on obtaining a license and installing the tool on macOS is available here). Successfully running Trend Micro requires setting up a Trend Micro account, which can be done during the installation/first time setup process.

For Windows personally owned devices, Cybersecurity recommends using the built-in security suite, Windows Defender. Learn more about enabling Windows Defender here.
