WiscAlerts is the name for UW-Madison's emergency notification system. In the event of a campus emergency, students, faculty and staff will receive timely information and updates about a situation and steps you can take to stay safe. To sign up, visit http://go.wisc.edu/wiscalerts
Signing up for WiscAlerts text messages is simple and takes just a few moments. You can enroll by logging into the My UW Portal, navigating to the Services tab and looking for the WiscAlerts logo.
WiscAlerts occur in three different ways:
All WiscAlert text messages will arrive from the short code number 67283 or 226787. This service is free, but you will be responsible for normal short messaging service (SMS) charges from your cellular provider.
- WiscAlerts Email: Mass email which can be sent to all campus users.
- WiscAlerts -- Phone: Campus Centrex phone users are configured to receive a call with a recorded message providing information.
- WiscAlerts -- Text: The university text messaging service, designed to reach mobile users who may be away from their computers or offices.
UWPD recently launched an Off-Campus Alert system. This is a supplement to WiscAlerts. Off-Campus Alerts will alert the community about significant threats in certain areas OFF the UW-Madison campus - areas where a large number of students live or frequently visit. These are opt-in, meaning you must sign up to receive them. UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff can simply log in to their WiscAlert setting at http://go.wisc.edu/wiscalerts and select the Off-Campus Alerts checkbox. See this website for information on how parents and other community members can sign up. The Off-Campus Alert system is a pilot in Fall 2018, UWPD will evaluate its use and success to determine if they'll continue.
