The main purpose of the Data Digest is to provide comprehensive quantitative information on the major dimensions of the university, including students, faculty, staff, and budget. The Data Digest also provides official numbers. It is possible to measure many of the attributes of the university in a variety of different ways, depending on different definitions. However, the official numbers and definitions are often an important point of reference. The Data Digest is published annually, around March of each year.
Hard copies are available for UW departmental use by calling the above phone number. Electronic versions of the Data Digests for all years are available on the website listed above.
Supports strategic, academic, and budgetary planning and decision making through analytics, including the presentation, and distribution of relevant and timely information, policy analyses, and projections of future trends.
Prepares comparative analyses of UW-Madison to peer institutions as a context for planning.
Responds to internal and external requests for analytic information about UW-Madison's academic people, programs, structures, and curriculum.
Facilitates the flow of information regarding academic-related governance processes among the Provost's Office, UW System Administration and Board of Regents, and UW-Madison administrative offices.
