The U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center is one of about 100 units in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and is the only one with the mission of improving forage use by dairy cattle.

Mission
Providing dairy industry solutions for food security, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. We build uniquely valuable, science-based research initiatives focused on improving dairy production systems, soil ecology, forage production, forage quality, nutrient management, and ecosystem services.

Vision
Leading the world in integrated dairy forage systems research.

The U.S. Dairy Forage Research center's organizational road map includes:
1. Modifying plants to improve nutrient availability.
2. Developing new cropping and pasture systems.
3. Improving harvest and storage systems.
4. Improving nutrient utilization by cows.
5. Reducing nutrient escape to the environment.
6. Developing new bioenergy and bioproduct uses.
