Capital Purchases for GSSF organizations

Last updated 11/20/2020

Capital purchases are defined as items that cost at least $5,000 (per piece) AND have a useful life of two years or more.

The $5,000 minimum does not apply to equipment accessories that are attached to previously purchased capital items.
Replacement parts which cost $5,000 and which extend the useful life of the purchase must be capitalized.
All equipment purchased with funds from the SSFC are the property of the SSFC, not the student organization.
These purchases must follow a simplified bid process and use existing UW/State contracted vendors when possible (Shop@UW (or MDS), and SWAP (Surplus with a Purpose)).
For questions on capital purchases, please email the SSFC Financial Specialist.
