Engage Order Tool - Accessibility & Usability Information

This document summarizes the accessibility and usability barriers identified during testing as well as how to get help.

The Engage Order Tool is a web application that allows faculty to select an eText or publisher Digital Learning Tool (DLT) for their course. The eText/DLT is then automatically purchased for the student through their tuition.

Accessibility and usability barriers

The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist with the Order Tool.

Some keyboard navigation barriers may be difficult for people with vision or motor disabilities

Some functionality is not reachable via keyboard navigation. For example, users are unable to expand the menu list on the side filters. The focus indicator, which shows the keyboard navigating user where the navigation has moved to, does not relocate when a new page is opened. The focus indicator does not relocate, for example, when selecting a course, or when trying to navigate to the pop-up window to cancel an order.

Magnification and interface barriers may be difficult for people with low vision

The page does not reflow when the page is magnified, making it difficult for users with low vision to increase magnification for readability. When magnified, users cannot see the full contents of the student list, or see all of the items on the filter menu. Some elements overlap when magnified, making navigation difficult.

Some screen reader barriers may be difficult for people with vision disabilities

Some elements, such as checkboxes in the filter menu, do not have tags and therefore do not provide the information necessary to someone navigating via screen reader. Some buttons have incorrect text descriptions and therefore make it difficult for a user navigating via screen reader to select the correct button. Another result of missing text descriptions is that screen reader users do not know what is a required field when completing forms. Also, some pages may be difficult to navigate via screen reader or other assistive technologies because of duplicate or skipped heading levels.

Color contrast barriers may be difficult for people with color blindness

The focus indicator has low contrast, such as when navigating through the on the side filters. This may make it difficult for some users to navigate and read if they have low vision or color blindness. Additionally, the cancel button within the tool has low color contrast and also poses a navigation barrier for users with low vision or color blindness.
