UW-Madison Zoom - Account Consolidation Prompt

Effective January 4, 2021, any user who logs into their consumer Zoom account (zoom.us) using an @wisc.edu email address will be prompted with an account consolidation screen.


What does the account consolidation prompt look like?


Why am I receiving this message?

You have a Zoom account with you @wisc.edu email address that isn’t part of UW-Madison Zoom. It’s possible that you registered for Zoom before UW-Madison Zoom was available. Now that the ‘wisc.edu’ domain is reserved only for use within UW-Madison Zoom, you are required to consolidate to UW-Madison Zoom or update the email address on your Zoom account. Consolidation is only recommended for those users eligible for UW-Madison Zoom (current enrolled students and UW-Madison faculty and staff).

What should I do when I receive this message?

If your intention is to migrate your consumer Zoom account to UW-Madison Zoom tenant, before selecting to consolidate your account, please make sure you understand what data will and will not be migrated during the transition.

After you have decided to migrate, the next thing you want to do is verify if you are eligible for UW-Madison Zoom account. If you are still unsure if your UW-Madison NetID account is eligible for UW-Madison Zoom, please contact the DoIT Help Desk to confirm.

Eligible users

If you are eligible and have saved your data, perform the following steps:

  1. Open a private browser window.
  2. Go to https://uwmadison.zoom.us/.
  3. Click Sign in.
  4. Sign in using your NetID credentials
  5. You will be prompted to migrate your account - do so.
    Note: If you are prompted to "Sign into Your Current Account" or "Switch to the New Account", please make sure to click "Switch to the New Account".

Ineligible users

You will need to use the Update Email Address option within the account consolidation screen to change your address to a non-UW-Madison email address (e.g. yahoo.com, gmail.com, etc.). You can also use the instructions from Zoom to change your email address. After you have modified your email address, you will no longer see this consolidation screen.

Important: If you consolidate and do not rename your account, you will be locked out of your account. Please contact the DoIT Help Desk.

What does "Skip for This Time" do?

By clicking on this button, you will temporarily bypass the option to either consolidate or change your email address, and will be taken to your consumer Zoom account tenant.

Important: You will only have the option to skip three times. After the third time, you will be required to either consolidate or change your email address.
