Microsoft is working on an intelligent feature for Outlook on the web that should automatically remind users to reply to or follow up on emails. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, they plan to add support for message reminders over the next 3-4 months.
The AI-powered notification tool will automatically analyze your inbox to bring those emails to the top that probably need your attention. You will get reminders to reply to messages you may have forgotten about. These notifications will also remind you to send follow-up emails to coworkers they had already emailed and hadn’t heard back in a couple of days.
When will this feature be enabled?
Microsoft is planning to release this feature sometime between April and July 2021. It will be enabled for all users by default.
Can I manage this feature?
- Log into Outlook on the web.
- Go to Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Layout > Message Reminders.
- Set the desired action.
Will this feature be available to Outlook desktop users?
At this time, Microsoft has not stated if/when the new capability will be available in desktop versions of Outlook.
