Journey Mental Health Center is a private, non profit corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Founded in 1948, it has grown over the years to become a comprehensive community-based mental health, alcohol and other drug assessment & treatment center. Although the majority of funding comes from contracts with the county, it is also a recipient of numerous state, federal, and private foundation grants. In 2010, 5,330 individuals received assessments and 7,659 individuals received treatment services through JMHC’s 29 programs.

The mission of Journey Mental Health Center is to provide individuals and families with high quality, community based, recovery oriented mental health, substance abuse, and advocacy services that respect cultural differences an foster hope, strength, and self determination. We believe it is our mission to give priority to those individuals and families with high needs and low resources.

Program areas include Assertive Community Treatment, Survivors of Suicide Support Group, First Episode Psychosis, Yahara House, Kajsiab House, Family Preservation Program, Comprehensive Community Services, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools, and Mental Health First Aid.

Clinical services are primarily provided by mental health/AODA master level social workers, counselors, nurses, psychologists. There is frequently a waiting period for clinical services, even for priority individuals/families who have serious mental health/AoDA service need and no insurance/limited ability to pay. Access to emergency services (such as life threatening situations, e.g. homicide or suicide) is always available. Medication assessment and management is provided by psychiatrists & advanced nurse prescriber.
