Students and non-students can be referred to the Urgent Care Psychiatric Service or to the ER. Most persons will be seen within 24 hours of the referral; emergencies will be seen immediately. The Service must be called before seeing a student.

Persons with non-emergency psychiatric concerns can be referred to the Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic of the UW Hospital Psychiatry Dept., (608) 263-6100.

Our clinic is staffed by University of Wisconsin faculty psychiatrists and psychologists with a broad range of experience in general psychiatry and expertise in treating depression, anxiety and family dysfunction. Additional staff includes Master's degree level therapists. The clinic serves as a primary training site for advanced psychiatric residents and psychology interns. A specialized triage unit responds to and screens all requests for service, both urgent and routine.

Available therapies include psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups, and psycho biological assessment & treatment. There is also a substance abuse treatment program, and a program which explores the psychiatric causes of sleep disorders. The inpatient unit is for mental/emotional disorders that cannot be safely treated as outpatients.
