Alternative Breaks Program enables UW-Madison students to volunteer during school breaks with human service organizations in culturally diverse communities. The mission of the program is to provide a chance to see a different view of America, meet unique individuals and work in a cooperative atmosphere.
All current UW-Madison students are eligible. Applications are available approximately two months before trips and they are available online.

Alternative Breaks exposes students to communities and immersion experiences which cannot be replicated on the UW Madison campus. These lessons and perspectives can then be applied in students' own communities.
The Alternative Breaks program provides UW-Madison students with an opportunity to participate in volunteer and educational trips to culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged communities throughout the United States.
