The name of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program has changed to better reflect the full range of training opportunities offered. The program is now called the Emergency Education Center (EEC).
The Emergency Education Center at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics originated in 1971 with the implementation of the Paramedic Training Center. Within the next few years, the training program expanded to include education and eventually paramedic-level services for the Madison area fire departments and the fire departments of Beloit, Janesville and Waukesha.
In 1973, the program received a training grant from the U.S. Department of Resources Administration to provide outreach education to community-level hospitals with training and education in advanced cardiopulmonary life support and advanced trauma management.
In addition, CPR training for instructors also was extended across the state and ACLS and BLS courses were initiated for the staff of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
