EMS Desktop Client Email Setup
This document goes through the setup to allow the EMS Desktop Client to send emails natively through Wiscmail.
Personal Accounts - Use Outlook
Customers wishing to send from their personal Office 365 accounts should be as follows:
- Setting is changed under Settings→Preferences
- Uncheck Use Global Settings
- Check Use Microsoft Outlook
Service Accounts - Using Client
This setup will be discontinued July 1st 2022. Service accounts should only be setup if record of emails is necessary for workflow. To setup a service account in the the global email settings (System Administration → Settings → Email Settings)
- Have Email Domain admin make the following changes to the service account
- Ensure that the service account email password is explicitly set. Many use purely send as or linked accounts rather than access the account directly via the password.
- Ensure Password Security is Disabled (See: https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=95580)
- Ensure SMTP is Enabled (In Https://wiscmail.wisc.edu/admin Office 365 → Client protocols → O365 SMTP)
- Setting is changed under Settings→Preferences. To setup a service account in the the global email settings (System Administration → Settings → Email Settings)
- Use Global Email Settings: Unchecked
- Mode: Authenticated Specific
- Server: smtp.office365.com
- Username: NAME_DOMAIN@wisc.edu
- Password: password
- The following EMS Client setting also need to be configured
- Ensure the following System Parameters are set in the EMS Client (System Administration → Settings → Parameters → Desktop Client)
- Enable email Support = Yes
- SMTP - Use SSL = Yes
- SMTP Security Protocol = TLS
- Ensure Emails Settings (System Administration → Settings → Email Settings)
- Port: 587 (No matter what mode is being used this is a global settings that affects user level preferences)
- Ensure the following System Parameters are set in the EMS Client (System Administration → Settings → Parameters → Desktop Client)
