Shelters stray and unwanted animals. Will investigate claims of cruelty to animals. There is a daily 24 hour emergency pick-up service for stray and injured animals, contacted through the Dane County Sheriff or Madison Police Department. Unwanted animals are held as long as there is room. No wild animals are placed for adoption, and there are no same-day adoptions.

Spay and neuter assistance program, videos for schools, pet matching, volunteer opportunities, foster families, and Love a Pet. Call for details.

The Dane County Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization. Programs such as adoption, education, spay/neuter offset, and others are funded by memberships, donations, and bequests. Law enforcement and county stray pick ups are contracted by the Dane County Board and funded by tax dollars.
