If you have a legal problem and you're looking for an attorney or other legal assistance in Wisconsin, the State Bar of Wisconsin is here to help you figure out if you need a lawyer, and how you should proceed if you do.
The State Bar of Wisconsin is a mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for all attorneys who hold a Wisconsin law license. With more than 24,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education and other services for its members, supports the education of law students, and educates the public about the legal system.
Services available through the State Bar include the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS), the Modest Means referral service, and Lawyer Hotline. Through the Modest Means service, they may be able to refer you to a lower cost attorney if you qualify. The Lawyer Hotline is a callback service that helps answer basic legal questions for members of the public. We also have special programs for members of the military, veterans and first responders.
