The Center for Pre-Health Advising supports students as they explore graduate and professional programs in healthcare (Chiropracty, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Podiatry, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine).

The Center helps students integrate the prerequisite coursework into their school/college and major requirements; assists students in preparing to get involved in research and service opportunities on campus and in the broader community; and supports students as they prepare for professional exams and the application process.

We help students integrate the prerequisite coursework into their school/college and major requirements. We also help students prepare to get involved in research and service opportunities on campus and in the broader community. In addition, we support students as they prepare for professional exams and the application process.

Advising appointments can be scheduled here.

CPHA has recently changed how they are meeting with first year students. Here's what has changed:
  • CPHA is offering a non-credit online orientation on Canvas entitled, “Preparing for Professional Programs in Health Care.” This course will help first year students learn to find answers to many of their most pressing questions: how to explore health careers; how to determine which classes to take; how to find extracurricular experiences; and most importantly, how best to utilize advising resources across campus answer their questions, big and small. While completing the course, students are also expected to volunteer in a hospital or other facility for a semester.  Students will be able to meet with Mike Hill, our dedicated first year advisor and course instructor, during group advising sessions, via online office hours and during drop-ins, including our new First Year Friday Drop-In hours. First year students may seek advice via our questions box (questions@prehealth.wisc.edu). Advisors interested in gaining access to the course should email Mike Hill (michael.hill@wisc.edu). Sign up here.
  • CPHA will no longer accept individual advising appointments with most first year students.  We direct all students who take the online orientation to complete it and to begin volunteering in a hospital or other setting during their first year on campus. Students will go to their major advisor for advice on course selection and we will continue to provide information to support campus advisors. Once students complete this course, we will clear them to schedule appointments with us and look forward to advising them in person as sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Nevertheless, we will maintain our commitment to our campus partners serving targeted groups, including programs supporting First-Generation, Transfer, and URM students. If you see unaffiliated students who would benefit from our advising during their first year, we welcome advisor referrals from our colleagues.
  • CPHA has partnered with the Career Exploration Center (CEC) to provide exploration advising for Pre-Health students.  Students will be directed to visit the CEC prior to making appointments with us beginning Sophomore year.
  • First Year Fridays.  First Year Students will be able to meet with a pre-health advisor during Friday office hours, 9am-12pm.

  • Other drop-in hours are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:30-3:30pm.
