University of Wisconsin-Extension's Independent Learning has offered distance learning courses to help students reach their educational goals since 1892. Independent Learning has nearly one hundred undergraduate-level courses taught by University of Wisconsin faculty and instructors at institutions accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Courses feature individualized instruction, year-round registration, self-paced study, and a twelve-month time period for course completion.
Some UW-System students may concurrently take independent learning courses to apply towards degrees; check with individual UW-System schools to check on regulations regarding acceptance of credit for Independent Learning Courses.
Visit the Independent Learning catalog at https://il.wisconsin.edu/catalog/index.aspx for courses in everything from mathematics, business, foreign languages, English, education, biology, sociology, history, and more—we currently offer nearly one hundred different classes for 1 to 5 undergraduate credits.
Qualified high-school age students may take undergraduate courses for college credit. Registration must be approved by the advising staff, and students attending high school should discuss their plans with a high school counselor or principal prior to registration.
