The minutes of the meeting of April 4, 2022 were approved by consent.

 

Heather Daniels, Secretary of the Faculty, reported on progress on revised procedures for the access of electronic files. The University Committee also discussed the freedom of speech survey that was set to be launched by UW System and has now been delayed until fall 2022. PROFS is putting out a statement asking for cancellation of the survey.

 

Lauren Papp was elected chair of the University Committee for 2022-2023 beginning June 1.

 

Kristen Roman, Chief of UW Police Department, reported on challenges in recruitment and retention, particularly in the security area. They are working on the next strategic planning process and involving stakeholders both inside and outside the department. It should be completed by 2023. They are also working on a communications audit and recently launched a campus survey. The co-responder model with UHS mental health services is working well, and they are hoping to expand.

 

The department’s equity dashboard has all quarterly data for 2021. They are working to create a mechanism for data review by community members. They also looking to expand the policy advisory committee members involvement in the department including in policy development.

 

John Zumbrunnen, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, reported that the Morgridge Center is moving to the Division for Teaching and Learning. Travis Wright from the Department of Counseling Psychology will be the new director. The Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) is moving to undergraduate advising.

 

The Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring is continuing to build structure and culture as a unit. They held a series of workshops two weeks before classes began and have helped build or revise 75 online courses. They are also building partnerships with schools and colleges.

 

He has not heard any complaints about the mask optional practice on campus. The timetable for fall semester is predominately in person and that will be the case going forward. Other modalities could be adopted for reasons of pedagogy or access.
