Cloning a page or post
The first option to be aware of is the ability to copy a page immediately and set it to Draft status. Be aware that this option does not automatically open up the newly copied page or post. There are two ways to access this option.
- Access your Pages or Posts by clicking on the menu item in the far left of your screen.
- Hover your mouse over the item that you would like to copy, and click on the Clone option.
- This is also available in the page or post itself. Click Copy to a new draft found in the Publish section of the item. A confirmation will appear at the top of your current page that says "1 item copied."
- A new page or post appears, immediately placed in the Draft status.
-
In the new page or post, give it a new Title at the top and also be sure to change the Permalink value as well. It will add a number next to the Permalink (URL) value, which will not help with search optimization. URL values should have lower case characters, and use a hyphen to represent a space. For example, change-this-title would be an appropriate Permalink value to use.
-
Click Save Draft to keep the page in draft status and continue updating. Click Publish to make this new page or post live.
Creating and editing a duplicated page or post
A second option is to create and begin editing a duplicated page or post that will be set to Draft status. Be aware that this option automatically opens up the newly copied page or post.
- Access your Pages or Posts by clicking on the menu item in the far left of your screen.
- Hover your mouse over the item that you would like to copy, and click on the New Draft option.
- The page or post is immediately copied and placed in a Draft status, and loads to the editing screen for it.
- In the new page or post, give it a new Title at the top and also be sure to change the Permalink value as well. It will add a number next to the Permalink (URL) value, which will not help with search optimization. URL values should have lower case characters, and use a hyphen to represent a space. For example, change-this-title would be an appropriate Permalink value to use.
- Click Save Draft to keep the page in draft status and continue updating. Click Publish to make this new page or post live.
Rewriting and republishing an existing page or post
You can also duplicate a page or post, make specific changes to it, and rewrite those changes to the original. There are two ways to access this option.
- Access your Pages or Posts by clicking on the menu item in the far left of your screen.
- Hover your mouse over the item that you would like to copy, and click on the Rewrite & Republish option.
- This option also exists by clicking Rewrite & Republish found in the Publish section of the item.
-
Upon clicking the value, a new Draft of that page or post appears. A message at the top states, "You can now start rewriting your post in this duplicate of the original post. If you click "Republish", your changes will be merged into the original post and you’ll be redirected there."
-
Make the changes that you would like to this particular item. You can click Save Draft in the Republish options section to save your progress.
- Click the Republish button to commit your changes to the original page or post.
- Be sure to verify the changes you wanted to make are accurate within the newly published page or post.
