iPod - Resetting Various iPod Models

This document explains the various ways to reset an iPod according to Apple's available product manuals.

iPod Classics

Original iPod Classic

Released: October 21, 2002

1. While the iPod is connected to power, press and hold the Play and Menu buttons for at least 5 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

1. While the iPod is connected to Power, toggle the Hold Switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again)

This iPod does not have a way to be reset. You have to restore this iPod, see KB doc on restoring iPods. (Warning! Restoring the iPod will erase all the songs and files on it)

iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation

iPod Nano (6th Generation)

Released: February 28, 2011

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down Button simultaneously for at least 8 seconds or until an Apple logo appears. It may be necessary to repeat this step.
