NetSupport School - Web and Application Restrictions

How to enable web and application restrictions on computers using NetSupport School.

Starting up the computers

  1. From the Windows Desktop of the control computer double-click on the "Wake To Windows" icon.

    • The Computers should start to wake up and boot into Windows
    • After about 3 minutes the NetSupport School application should open and start connecting to the clients.
    • Select the first option: "Provide access to the full suite of features in the classroom"

Web Restrictions

  1. With NetSupport School open select the Internet tab on the left.
    The all computers group is selected by default.
    Note: If you select one computer then restrictions will only be applied to that computer.

  2. Add Approved or Restricted websites at the bottom by hitting the green +

    2. Add the Website properties if it hasn't been added already.

  3. Then select Approved Only to only allow access to the websites approved, or select Block restricted to block the specified websites in Restricted Websites on the bottom.

    2. Then select all computers by clicking and dragging your mouse across them all and you should see a green check mark show up to all computers.

  1. To Select the previously prepared Access List go to the Website List menu at the top and select Load Existing Website List.

  2. And then select "Load Existing Website List..." (6) and select the appropriate list that appears.
    Example: Learn UW.web is set up for Learn@UW exams
    If none of the Lists work for you must Cancel and create a new list.

Application Restrictions

  1. With NetSupport School open select the Applications tab on the left.
    The all computers group is selected by default.
    Note: If you select one computer then restrictions will only be applied to that computer.

  2. Go to the Application Control category (2).
    1. At the bottom of the screen review the list of Approved and Restricted Applications.
    2. Applications  approved or restricted on Netsuppoort
  3. To add an application to Approved or Restricted select the green + on the top left. 
    1. Then find the path to the application and give it a description.
    2. Application Properties on Netsupport school. 

  4. Select all computers by clicking and dragging your mouse over all the computers and select Approved only to only allow the applications in the Approved list, or hit Block Restricted to block the applications in the Restricted list.

  5. To Select the previously prepared Access List go to the menu at the top and select Application List, then Load Existing Application List.
