Scheduling Assistant - Error when creating appointment via Scheduling Assistant

When attempting to schedule an appointment using the Scheduling Assistant, you may encounter an error in certain circumstances.

The most common error is shown below.

The error text reads "Either the calendar service is unexpectedly unavailable, or another unexpected error has occured. If you repeatedly see this message, please contact the Help Desk."

You might also see an error which reads "An unexpected error occurred: caught Api.StatusException"

This error can occur for several reasons:

You have disabled invite rights

When you schedule an appointment using the Scheduling Assistant, it creates an appointment in your Office 365 account with the schedule owner listed as the person who proposed the event. If you have not given that person Invite Rights, creation of the event will fail and you will receive the above error. To resolve this, you can either grant the person in question Invite Rights or grant the default user Invite Rights.

The following error may appear if this is the cause.

The error text reads "Scheduling Assistant cannot create the appointment because your account is configured not to accept any invitations."

Resources cannot be visitors in Scheduling Assistant

Note: if you receive the error below then the account you logged in with is a resource account. Resources cannot be visitors in the Scheduling Assistant utility and attempted to log in to schedule an appointment with the resource will result in the error..
