SIS/Managing Your Enrollment - Class Permissions Dates and Deadlines

logo

This document outlines the various places a curricular or enrollment representative can access session dates and deadlines for class permission purposes.

Overview

Departmental class permissions are valid during certain dates only. The default permission expiration date is the session's "Add Deadline." Departmental representatives can shorten or extend the expiration date to a certain extent. After a session's "Drop Deadline," departmental permission will no longer be sufficient for allowing student enrollment and a student must use the Course Change Request Form to seek instructor and Academic Dean permission for a late add. There are a variety of places to locate date and deadline information related to class permissions.

Class permissions can be used through 11:59 p.m. (Madison time) on the date of the listed deadline.

Dates and Deadlines-Based Grid:

Use this grid to understand when a student can perform enrollment actions on their own in Course Search & Enroll versus when a department needs to enter permission in SIS versus when an academic dean's permission is required.

SIS Session Dates and Deadlines link from Class Permissions Page:

To find the most accurate, session-specific deadlines when entering a permission in Curricular and Enroll Rep WorkCenter > Class Permissions, right click on the red triangle next to session description to open the "Session Dates and Deadlines Page."

A window will pop up SIS deadline information for this session.

Session Dates and Deadlines tab with boxes around Add Class/Add Waitlist Deadline and Drop Class Deadline

The column titled "Add Class/Add Wait List Deadline" is considered the "Add Deadline." This is the date that defaults in the Class Permissions "Expiration Date" column.

The column titled "Drop Class Deadline" is considered the "Drop Deadline" date after which department permission will no longer work for a student.

Office of the Registrar Dates and Deadlines Page:

The Office of the Registrar's Dates and Deadline page shows general dates and deadlines for the Regular/A1 session each term.

The row titled "Deadline for students to add, swap, or change sections in a Fall term course (after: need department permission)" is considered the "Add Deadline." This is the date that defaults in the Class Permissions "Expiration Date" column.

The row titled "Deadline for students to drop a Fall term course (after: need academic dean approval)" is considered the "Drop Deadline" date after which department permission will no longer work for a student.

Office of the Registrar Session Dates Page:

The Office of the Registrar's Session Dates page shows specific enrollment and tuition related deadlines for every session offered in a given term. This is more useful than the general Dates and Deadlines page if you're working with modular courses that aren't offered in the Regular/A1 session (especially useful during summer terms).
