Course Guide - Using the Plan Courses feature

Those with a UW-Madison NetID and accessing the Course Guide tab within My UW can add courses to a Plan for a specific term or a Favorites list by using the Plan Courses feature in Course Guide. The Plan Courses feature allows you to manage several lists and set up plans for future terms.

Add a course to your Favorites or Plans List

When searching courses in Course Guide, select the Add to Plan/Fav Icon next to a course title or topic title:

On a Course information page, use the option to Add to Plans/Favorites by selecting Add to Plan/Fav Icon. This is located directly below the course title:

When adding a course to Plan, a new window should open. Select Favorites to add the course either to your Favorites list or to another list that you have created. The other option is to select Plans, and then select a specific term (ie. 2011 Fall). This allows you to group courses by the terms in which you wish to take them. Once you have selected a list, be sure to click the Save button. You may have to scroll down to save.

Please Note: The Plan feature is only for your personal organizational needs. You cannot enroll in classes using Plan. You are able to use the Plan feature in conjunction with the Schedule Planner to import your planned courses.

Managing Course Lists in a Degree Plan

Once you have added courses to a list, you can view and manage your lists from the Degree Plan tab in Course Guide.

You can move courses to a different list, delete courses from a list, or save courses to a new list. If you save courses to a new list, it will prompt you to enter a name for your new list. The new list will then show up under Favorites. In addition, you have the option to create new Favorites lists, rename a list, copy a list to another list, or delete a Favorite list.


When managing Plans, you have the option to move courses among the various terms by drag/dropping the courses.  The Plans lists are preset to correspond with Spring, Summer and Fall terms. Currently you can plan courses for the current and the next five future terms.

Within Plans, Course Guide will let you know if the listed courses are currently being offered for the selected term.

Additional Notes

You can click on any course from your lists to view additional course information.

You also have the ability to add notes to each individual term within a plan by clicking the upper right corner on the term.
