Setting Permissions for Your public_html Directory

How to set correct permissions on your public_html directory

In order for all the files in your public_html directory to be visible on the web, you need to have the permissions set correctly. Setting permissions is most easily done using linux.

  1. Connect to and log in. The information found here might be of assistance. Don't change to a different directory - stay in your home directory when you log in.
  2. Type
    chmod -R a+rX public_html
  3. Enter.
  4. The permissions on your public_html directory will be updated.
  5. Type
    and [enter] to log out.
