Moodle - Moving a Course Forward to the New Semester

Note:

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

How to create a new semester's course using material from a previous semester

Every semester a new set of roster information needs to be linked with unique course identifiers in Moodle. As a result, your previous semester course CANNOT be used over again. It contains a unique identifier.

If you want to use content from a previous course, you should use the importing a course functions in Moodle. Here is a link on how to import course content from a previous course to your new course.

Note: This would import all materials from the course where the import is being performed.

If you only want to import certain items from a previous course, you can use the Backup and Restore function in Moodle. Here is a link with the instructions on how to perform a Backup and Restore

For assistance with this process, please contact your Moodle Support.
