Internet Explorer (Windows) - How to Backup Favorites

This document explains how to backup favorites in Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 7 and earlier

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. On the toolbar, click File -> Import and Export...
  3. Click Next at the Import/Export Wizard window.
  4. Select Export Favorites, click Next.
  5. Select the folder that you want to export. Click Next.
  6. Browse to the location where you want the exported file saved. Click Next.
  7. Click Finish.

 

Internet Explorer 8/9/10

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Open the Import/Export Wizard.
    • IE 8/9: Click Tools in the menu bar and then select Toolbars. From that submenu, select Menu Bar.

    • IE 10: Click the star icon in the menu bar, then click the downward arrow next to Add to favorites. From that submenu, click Import and export....

  3. A window will pop up asking how you want to import or export your browser settings. Make sure Export to a file is selected, then click Next.

  4. In the next window that appears, select Favorites then click Next

  5. Select the folder that you want to export and then click Next.

  6. Browse to the location where you want the exported file saved and then click Export.

  7. Click Finish.
