Note this message on the Wisconsin Department of Commerce website: "On July 1, 2011, functions once performed by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce were assigned to other state agencies and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation." Special Session Act 7 created a new Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), a public-private corporation to replace the state Department of Commerce (Commerce). WEDC will lead Wisconsin's economic development efforts."

WEDC Board of Directors can be found here, which is composed of state legislators, departmental secretaries, and private business owners. The thirteen-member Board of Directors provides WEDC with strategic leadership and operational oversight representing statewide public and private economic development interests.

From the former Wisconsin Department of Commerce website: The Wisconsin Department of Commerce is the state's leading agency for fostering the growth and diversification of the economy of the state. The mission of the department is to drive retention and creation of quality jobs and promote safe, healthy communities. This mission is carried out through the administration of statewide business development programs, including export development assistance, minority- and women-owned business certification, entrepreneurship services, and economic development financing programs.
