How to apply for a carpool parking permit

Overview of the carpool parking application process for UW employees and UW Health employees. Carpool permits are available to carpools with three or more members. Applications are prioritized ahead of other parking permit applications.
  1. Assess your eligibility.

    • Carpool permits are available for groups of three or more eligible employees who can drive together most of the time.
    • Carpool members may not have an active base lot, park and ride, or remote lot permit.

  2. Apply online.

    • Complete a carpool application form on the Transportation Services website. Make sure to select the "carpool permit" option (not "registered carpool").

  3. Step 3. Make temporary commuting arrangements.

If you don't have a current parking assignment, a temporary commuting plan will be necessary while your application is being processed.

  4. Watch your email for a parking assignment.

    • Carpool permit applications are prioritized ahead of base lot, Flex, and park and ride/remote lot permit applications. Most applications are processed in two weeks or less.

    • Permit assignments are emailed to the email address listed on the carpool application form.

    • Contact customer service for information about your application.

  5. Step 5. Purchase your permit in the eBusiness purchasing portal.

    • When you receive an offer, it will contain a link to the eBusiness purchasing portal. Log in to eBusiness with your campus NetID or UW Health credentials.
    • Refer to the KnowledgeBase article for purchase instructions: Parking and transportation - How to make a purchase in eBusiness.
    • When checking out, select your parking permit assignment from the list of options.
    • Carpool permits can be paid for in full by credit card or by payroll deduction (if eligible).

  6. Step 6. Get your permit.

    • Your purchase receipt will contain instructions on how to get your permit.
    • Depending on the time of year, permits may be mailed to the address listed in your eBusiness account. Or, you may be required to pick up your permit in person at a Transportation Services office. Your receipt will tell you what to do.
