DoIT offers two main enterprise (managed) server hosting options to campus customers:

Enterprise physical hosting
DoIT's enterprise physical hosting option allows customers to house DoIT-approved rack-mountable servers in DoIT's data centers. DoIT is responsible for all hardware and operating system administration and maintenance while the customer is responsible for software administration and maintenance.
Features
- DoIT is responsible for the maintenance of the server hardware and server operating system
- Physically secure data center, staffed 24x7
- UPS backed 208V AC power
- Managed HVAC, fire suppression
- Gigabit (1000BASE-T) ethernet networking, 10G (10GBASE SFP+, 10GBASE-T)
- DoIT-managed IP and DNS
- DoIT-managed hardware firewall service (required for devices attached to the campus network)
- If a server has access to restricted data, it is the customer's responsibility to implement appropriate security controls
- Integration into DoIT's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)
Caveats
- The customer is responsible for the maintenance of any applications running on the server
- DoIT, for an additional fee, may be able to provide application and database administration services
- Requires DoIT-approved hardware and operating system configuration
- DoIT supports AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, and Windows
- Tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 enterprise storage offerings available to enterprise physical hosting customers
- DoIT will work with customer to determine if the use of DoIT's SAN-based enterprise storage is required
- Enterprise storage volumes can be increased from initial allocation, if needed
- DoIT requires that the server operating system and production data be backed up using Bucky Backup
- DoIT requires a regularly scheduled bi-monthly maintenance window for Operating System maintenance. Whenever it is possible, maintenance will occur in this window, the customer will be notified when maintenance is necessary.
- DoIT provides 24x7 server, operating system, and (optionally) application monitoring
- DoIT will work with customer to determine where to physically host a server
- Virtual machines cannot be hosted inside of enterprise physical hosting servers
- IBM AIX LPARs and Sun Solaris zones are excluded from this restriction
- Server hardware and operating system support is "best effort" outside of campus business hours
Enterprise virtual hosting
DoIT's enterprise virtual hosting option provides customers with a virtual machine (VM) in DoIT's production virtualization cluster hosted in DoIT's data centers. DoIT is responsible for the underlying virtual infrastructure and guest operating system, and the customer is responsible for software administration and maintenance.
Features
- DoIT is responsible for the maintenance of the virtual server infrastructure and guest server operating system
- Virtualization infrastructure built using VMware's vRA and ESXi products
- VMs can be provisioned with up to 128 GB of memory
- Memory can be increased from initial allocation, if needed
- VMs can be provisioned with up to 16 CPUs
- Virtual CPUs can be increased from initial allocation, if needed
- 10G and gigabit network connectivity
- DoIT-managed IP and DNS
- DoIT-managed hardware firewall service (required for VMs attached to the campus network)
- If a server has access to restricted data, it is the customer's responsibility to implement appropriate security controls
- Auto-Tiered storage (SSD, SAS 15K, SAS 7.2K)
- Storage volumes can be increased from initial allocation, if needed
- Ability to move virtual machine, storage between data centers, if needed
- No outages for most enterprise storage maintenance
- Integration into DoIT's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)
