SIS/Student Groups - Student Groups Overview

A student group offers a way to assign group membership to a student for a something that is not otherwise available in SIS. For example, a student’s residence hall information is not naturally available in SIS, but certain classes may be open only to students who live in a specific residence hall. For the enrollment system to recognize a student as a resident of Witte Hall, they need to be placed in the “WITT” student group. This document explains some overview information related to student groups. In addition to enrollment requisites, student groups can be useful for processes such as billing, scholarship or Honors program membership, and student athlete identification. A student can be assigned to as many student groups as needed.

Sample Student Group Codes

The student group codes you have access to will be found in the SIS Student Groups Look Up list on the Student Groups page. These codes will be assigned based on what was submitted with your security authorization request and will not be visible until after you've completed the appropriate training and have received notice that your security to edit student groups has been added.

Examples of student group codes are listed below:

Security Note: You will be able to view ALL student groups attached to a student. You will only be able to add, change, and/or remove/inactivate students within student groups to which you have security.

Auto Delete Note: Every March and October, the Office of the Registrar purges/deletes students from the enrollment-related student groups. The Registrar’s office sends out a warning email to Student Group ‘owners’ indicating that all students will be deleted from specified enrollment-related student groups. If you do not want an enrollment-related student group purged, reply back by the date specified in their email.
