D2L - D2L Mobile Web (UW-Madison)

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

learn@uw is mobile enabled for easy browsing of course content, grades, and calendar on iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android-based smartphones.

The D2L mobile interface is optimized for mobile web browsing on any mobile device that allows you to browse web content. Recommended versions are: Android 2.2 and above, Blackberry 6 and above, and iOS 5 and above.

Note: This functionality is limited and should be treated like a pilot, with it still being in development.

Accessing D2L mobile on your device

The mobile version of D2L launches automatically when you open D2L on your phone's browser. It DOES NOT require you to download an app. Please note that it has a different look and feel than the computer version of D2L, but all of your course content will be the same whether you're viewing on a mobile device or a computer.

Once logged in, you automatically see the D2L Mobile Web.

To access your courses:
  1. Click the Madison bar across the top of the page. The courses appear in a list.

To access elements in a course:

  1. Click the Tools button on the left side of the page.
You can do the following on the mobile web version of D2L:
  • View course content
  • Read, compose, rate, and reply to discussion board messages
  • Read news
  • Access your bookmarks
  • View grades
  • View the calendar
Please note that when reading a discussion post from the mobile site, individual discussion posts are only recorded as "read" if the user clicks on the link for the individual post. If instructors are monitoring student participation in Discussions, or if dependencies have been set up based on reading certain posts, students should be advised to click the link for individual posts as they are read when using a mobile device. Instructors who want to track which posts they have read should also click each post.

*Note: You can view but not modify any of the tools.

Note that the mobile view is currently not optimized for heavy interactions (such as quizzing or course configuration). Some additional functionality may work from the "Desktop Version", accessible from the link at the of bottom the main home page, but for the full experience use a desktop or laptop computer.
