Accessing ARROW and the NetID Process

How do I get access to the ARROW system?

How do I log in to ARROW?

A UW-Madison NetID is required to log in to ARROW.  This is your username for logging into WiscMail, the MyUW Portal, the Parking Assignment system, and many other UW-Madison resources.

What if I don't have a UW-Madison NetID?

All UW-Madison faculty, staff, and students are eligible to obtain a UW-Madison NetID.  You may already have one and not know it.  As a first step toward troubleshooting a NetID problem, contact a local support person in your department.  They will likely be able to walk you through the process of logging in, or determining whether you have a NetID, or activating your NetID.

To find out whether you have one, try logging into the MyUW Portal.  If you don't have one, you can visit a web page to activate your NetID.  You will need to know your date of birth and your campus ID number.  You will also be asked to choose a password.

What if I don't know my UW-Madison NetID?

Contact the DoIT Help Desk at 608-264-HELP (608-264-4357).

Can I use my NetID from another school in the UW system to access ARROW?

No.  In order to access ARROW, you will need a UW-Madison NetID.  To request a UW-Madison NetID, please the read the information below for non-UW-Madison personnel.

What if I'm not a UW-Madison student, faculty member or staff member?

Others may apply for an authorization to access ARROW.  Individuals who may be good candidates for ARROW authorizations include:

  • Employees of the Madison VA Hospital, the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, and the UW Medical Foundation who participate in or administer research involving human subjects
  • Investigators and study staff from other non-UW-Madison institutions (including other UW system schools) who collaborate on projects that are overseen by the Health Sciences IRBs
  • Site visitors and study monitors
  • Consultants who are not engaged in research but whose professional function justifies ARROW access
Please use our web form for requesting ARROW access for a non-UW user.  Once the IRB office reviews and approves the request, the non-UW user will be added to the University's Special Authorizations system.  This entitles the individual to obtain and activate a UW-Madison NetID.  The IRB office will send instructions on how to activate the NetID via email.
