General Description

This user procedure provides detailed information and instructions for employees on how to change marital status via Personal Summary page.

Process Considerations

  • Creating a Marital Status change will not create a Benefits Event.  If changes need to be made to an employee's plans due to a change in marital status, an ADM Event will need to be created and processed.

Exceptions (including first-year considerations)

POIs will not have access to Self Service.

Procedure Steps

To perform this procedure, please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to My UW Portal > Update My Personal Information > Personal Summary Page
  2. Click Change Marital Status button.
  3. Click in field Date Change will Take Effect and enter effective date.


  4. Click drop down for Marital Status to select a new status.
  5. Click the Submit button. Successful Save page appears.
  6. Click OK.


  7. Click Return to Personal Information Link.
